Located at the foothills of the Waterberg, Shakama Private Game Lodge & Spa is a piece of old Africa just over two hours from Johannesburg. Situated in malaria-free surrounds, the 5 star graded Shakama is set in 6 000 hectares of pristine natural beauty and absolute tranquility. Guests can enjoy a diverse offering of activities, some just as unusual as the name Shakama.
Accommodation
The lodgings at Shakama include twelve suites, of which two are located in the main building and eight pairs nestled against a slope overlooking the valley. Six of these chalet suites also have outdoor showers in addition to the en-suite bathrooms.
All suites have private decks overlooking a ravine of unspoilt nature. Fine linen, tasteful interior decoration inspired by the natural environment and high thatched ceilings, all combine to create a feeling of comfort and bliss. Please note: Due to the slopes on which chalets were built, stairs between different floor levels may not make the accommodation suitable for physically handicapped persons.
High up, on the top of the hill the newly renovated self-catering camp, Eagles Camp, is located. Eagles can sleep up to eight people and is only rented out as a unit on either a self-catering or accommodation only basis. The self-catering camp consists of two en-suite "split level" cottages, the communal kitchen and lapa, complete the circle.
Facilities
The main lodge boasts a relaxing lounge and dining area which opens onto a wide viewing deck. There’s a full bar too, to enjoy pre-dinner drinks before dining around an open log fire in the boma, or in the atmospheric dining area, where nouvelle cuisine is served.
Facilities also include a spa, conferencing facilities, wedding facilities and a swimming pool.
Activities
Shakama Lodge lies in the heart of the 6000 hectare Waterberg Estate Reserve offering abundant game and bird viewing opportunity. The reserve does not offer the 'Big 5' as yet, but rhino, hippo and over 20 other indigenous game species roam the estate. Experience giraffe, hippo, impala and other indigenous game species from the luxury of a game drive or on foot with a guided walk.
