Nungu Game Lodge is on the privately owned, 6000 Ha Nungu Private Game Reserve, approximately 320 km from Johannesburg in the Limpopo Province and adjacent to the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve - surrounded by the spectacular Waterberg Mountains and located on the seasonal Mokolo River.
The lodge boasts both river and mountain landscapes, bird and animal species. Nungu is a full-service lodge and does not offer self-catering facilities.
Accommodation
8 bedrooms comprising the following:
4 x Double Nungu Suites – all facing the MokoloRiver. Spaciously appointed, each thatched, glass-fronted suite has mini-bar fridges, tea/coffee-making facilities, lounge area with fireplace, air-conditioning, en-suite bathroom with bath and both indoor and outdoor showers, private deck and plunge pool.
Nungu House – double story thatch unit. Upstairs double, en-suite Master bedroom with lounge area and balcony; downstairs twin-bedded room with en-suite shower and toilet; lounge/kitchen area, tea/coffee making facilities, fireplace, with guest toilet, private deck and plunge pool. Ideal for families of 4 - children under 6 years are welcome if Nungu House is booked.
2 x Double Fig Tree Suites– located on the opposite side of the MokoloRiver and built around a magnificent and ancient Fig Tree. These double thatch suites share a lounge/kitchen area and deck with plunge pool and are ideal for a family of 4 or 2 couples on a weekend away together. Both have en-suite bathrooms, with both indoor and outdoor showers, mini-bars, air-conditioning and tea/coffee making facilities
Facilities
Main lodge – dining room, lounge, bar and open kitchen; separate Lapa with lounge and bar opening on to deck and large rim-flow swimming pool, overlooking the Mokolo River.
Activities
Morning and evening (or at times convenient to groups) safaris in open Land Rovers, are conducted by qualified rangers, with guided walks for the more adventurous. Children under 6 years are not permitted on walks or safaris, unless with a group with exclusive use of the lodge and at the discretion of lodge management.
Fishing can be arranged, depending on the flow of the river and at the discretion of management.
No lion or elephant on the reserve but plentiful and varied antelope, rhino, giraffe, zebra, leopard, various small cats, hyena, nile crocodile, etc. Active breeding programme for disease-free buffalo and the rare sable antelope. Excellent riverine, savannah and mountain birdlife.
