Withmore than a quarter of a century of experience behindthem,Lightleys Holiday House Boats provide a completely different and unique experience. With more than 20 km of navigable waterways, the Knysna Lagoon has many beautiful places where you can drop anchor for the night - and many more where you can stop for a few hours of sunny peace and quiet. When you arrive at Lightleys you’ll be given a map of permitted mooring locations and comprehensive instructions on how to sail your boat and find your way around the Lagoon.
No skippers licence is required. A full navigational course is done with all guests and the qualified staff goes through the workings of the boat before you set sail. This procedure takes about 45 minutes to complete.
Accommodation
Lightleys have a fleet of fourteen houseboats in Knysna. The nine Leisure liners’, sleeps a maximum of 4 in two double beds, but can accommodate 5 people for daytrips. In the front of the cabin you will find the main double bed and the dinning area converts into the 2nd double bed.The five Aqua Chalets’, sleeps a maximum of 6, and can accommodate 8 for a day trip.
Facilities
The boats are fully equipped with stoves, fridge, barbeques, hot and cold water, fresh water showers, toilets, bedding, cutlery, crockery etc. Guests can choose if they wish to do their own catering or have picnic and food hampers arranged for them.
The Leisure liners have the following additional features: collapsible shade awnings over the cockpits, solar panels for trickle-chargingfor the 12-volt fridge batteries;diving platforms for safe boarding of swimmers and larger water tanks.
Activities
Featherbed is a privately-owned, registered Nature Reserve and a South African Heritage site, situated on the Western Head of Knysna and is accessible by ferry or your houseboat only. This spectacular four-hour eco-experience includes a nature drive and guided walk, ending with a sumptuous buffet lunch at the Food Forest Restaurant.
Lightleys Holiday Houseboats’ exciting new overnight area is now open in the Thesen Harbour. This means you can now moor your boat and stroll to the shops, restaurants and spas - and not have to worry about driving home in the dark.
Guests can also make use of canoes and fishing boats with 8 hp engines. Tackle and bait are sold and fishing rods can be hired.
