Proclaimed a natural heritage site in 1995, Bonamanzi Private Game Park was recognized for its diverse habitats which provide shelter for threatened species such as the four toed elephant shrew,suni and red duiker. The outstanding natural features such as its view over St Lucia and thewetland plain also contributed to its proclamation. Ideally situated, bordering Lake St Lucia, a World Heritage Site, and a comfortable twenty minute drive from the acclaimed Hluhluwe iMflozi Park, Bonamanzi’s 4000 ha holds many surprises for its visitors.

Accommodation

The 3 star self-catering or catered accommodation gives one the freedom of option needed on an African Safari.

Bonamanzi Treehouses offers one the option of self catering or catered for accommodation. They each feature twin beds, en suite. Each unit has a fully equipped kitchenette, veranda and outside barbecue areas. Units are private but are within easy walking distance to the Lalapanzi Lodge and Restaurant.

At Lalapanzi Lodge it’s quite common to find a herd of impala sleeping outside your cottages and skittish warthog families amble around the camps all day long. This catered for camp has a total of 26 rooms that can accommodate 52 guests in air-conditioned en-suite Chalets and combo units with private verandas.

Dinizulu Lodge is set apart with three double luxury, air-conditioned en-suite chalets, as well as a dining-entertainment area overlooking Dinizulu Dam. A sparkling swimming pool is set in the middle of the camp. There is multi-channel television, a bar and a fully equipped kitchen.

Facilities

There is an Out of Africa style restaurant and pub or the option of a bush braai (barbecue) by candlelight, served at the water's edge with the sounds of nocturnal animals all around. The Lalapanzi lounge built up on stilts over the waterhole provides one with breathtaking sunsets, excellent birding and game viewing day or night. Lalapanzi has its own private pool.

Activities

Guided Walks: No two guided walks are the same, one day, you’ll thrill to magnificent elephant sightings, the next, discover why that fruit is called the Black Monkey Orange… why the beetle rolls its dung…or which tree bark cures hay fever.

Game Drives: A game drive on this reserve will include a journey through the magical and mysterious fever tree forest, savannah grasslands, dense sand forests, vast swamp lands and the ever changing Hluhluwe river with its abundant bird life. Bonamanzi has Elephant, Leopard, Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest, Crocodile, Hippo, Nyala, Kudu, Waterbuck, Reedbuck, Impala, Red Duiker, Grey Duiker, Suni, Warthog and Hyena amongst others.

Boat Trips: Bonamanzi Game Park is one of the top birding spots in South Africa. One of the most popular activities is the boat birding cruise where you enjoy a leisurely trip down the Hluhluwe River spotting Jacana, Kingfisher, Spurwinged Goose and a whole host of river birds.

Horse Trails: Complete your experience with a leisurely horse ride through forest or open grassland with one of the experienced guides.

Childrens activities:. As a child-friendly establishment, Bonamanzi has introduced two activities, designed specifically for children to nurture interest in wildlife and instill respect for the African bush.
