Addo Elephants

Eastern Cape

The landscape of the Eastern Cape is extremely diverse. The western interior is largely arid Karoo, while the east is well-watered and green. The Eastern Cape offers a wide array of attractions and "big-five" viewing in a malaria-free environment. Port Elizabeth, the largest city in the Eastern Cape, affectionately known as the “windy city” was founded in 1820 and is an important seaport on the South African coast line. The Addo Elephant National Park, situated 73 km from Port Elizabeth, was proclaimed in 1931. Its 743 km² offers sanctuary to more than 400 elephants, Cape buffalo and black rhino.
